All it takes is six simple questions…
In @Patrick Lencioni’s book, The Advantage, he says that the best performing teams have extremely clear answers to six questions:
- Why do we exist? This is your team’s core purpose.
- How will we succeed? The strategies for success that you’ll pursue, to achieve your why.
- What do we do? The critical activities that your team performs, in alignment and support of your how.
- Who does what? Clear roles and responsibilities improve individual and collective performance
- How do we behave? The values that underpin your culture.
- What’s most important right now? Your goals and/or vision for the future.

Run a workshop and fill it in with your team.
Make a poster. Blow it up and stick it on the wall, so everyone can see it.
Attach it to your team meeting agenda. And check in with a different question each meeting.
Create alignment. Complete it for the team. And then repeat the process at the next level down, for each role, so everything aligns.
