You are never too small to make a difference.
Greta Thunberg, Activist
You don’t have to be a CEO or executive to make a difference.
You don’t even need a manager’s title.
Leaders exist at all levels of organisations. And society.
We don’t need anyone else’s permission to start leading. To start changing our organisation – or our world – for the better.
Many of the most influential people I’ve worked with – those who made the most positive impact on those around them – weren’t in executive roles, let alone the CEO.
We can improve things for ourselves. And our team mates. Anytime we choose.
And we can lead upwards – upward influence is a powerful skill to develop. And often not as hard as people imagine. Because, what (good) boss wouldn’t want a team member to proactively lighten their load through improvement?
Do you know something that needs improving at work? Or in your community? Do it. Don’t wait.
Because, don’t forget: everyone else is winging it anyway.
I’m reminded of the quote by tennis player and activist, Arthur Ashe: “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can”.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
Arthur Ashe, Tennis player and activist
Because, any improvement – however small – is better than no improvement.
